Lottery iGaming on a Rise; Delaware North to Resume Sports Betting

The Lottery Commission in West Virginia is supporting the iGaming sector. Recently, another iGaming app has been ready to launch in Charleston, West Virginia. Meanwhile, the online sports betting in Delaware North is set to resume soon, at two casinos moderated by the state Lottery Commission.

The Lottery director, John Myers, informed the commission that the Greenbrier Resort casino would begin online betting and launch its iGaming app by teaming up with MGM on August 26th, 2020. According to Meyers, the app marks the next big interactive gaming experience for Lottery in the state of West Virginia. This is the second iGaming app launched by Lottery in the recent past. The commission also saw the Delaware North company getting ready to bring back its sports betting business. The company will bring the new iGaming app to all its retail locations. Starting from Nitro’s Mardi Gras Casino, Meyers plans to expand the reach of these two iGaming mobile apps in August and September. The Wheeling Island Casino, run by Delaware North, is now expected to resume its sports betting operations in the first week of September 2020.

While these casinos will have soft openings for their sports betting business revival, there’s going to be very few promotions for the launch. The app release activity will be played behind closed curtains to avoid people from breaking the social distancing laws these days. The COVID-19 situation has compelled the company to avoid any promotional wagering as they do not want to end up disrupting the state laws implemented for this health crisis.

In March, Delaware North had temporarily suspended its sports betting services in the view of the growing COVID-19 pandemic in the US. This was the second service suspension of Delaware North in so many years. Myers believed that the Nitro and Wheeling properties need to get back up to run their sports betting business for creating enough revenues. This move will help Delaware North sustain its business. The Lottery Commission will also work closely with the company to test the operations of sports betting apps in the initial weeks of its launch. The Chester-based Mountaineer Racetrack & Casino is also on the list of adopting a new mobile sportsbook app. In the coming months, casinos in West Virginia are keen to resume their 24-hour operations under deep cleaning regimes.
